wacky historical fiction

Spent most of the day reading Steve Berry's Romanov Prophecy. Quite the little tale. Perhaps I should move out of fiction into historical novels. Sure the first person's thoughts will be fictional, but all their actions and relationships would be real.

And where do I look for more stream of consciousness short stories? I really liked one book I purchased earlier this summer.
